The Fall — and the Love That Followed
At nineteen, Mike Shultz was strong, athletic, adventurous, and preparing to join the Marines. Then, on December 23, 1980, while working seventy feet up in a tree, he accidentally cut the rope holding him and fell to the frozen ground. He was resuscitated at the scene, spent weeks in a coma, and woke to a life forever changed—paralyzed from the chest down.
But Mike’s story did not begin with the fall. Raised in an abusive home and forced to live on his own at sixteen, he carried deep wounds of rejection, anger, and broken family relationships long before the accident. Yet through every dark chapter, one truth remained: the love of Jesus kept pursuing him.
You Cannot Stop Love is the honest and deeply hopeful story of a man who had to relearn almost everything—how to move, work, trust, forgive, love, and live again. Mike writes openly about disability, depression, isolation, marriage, fatherhood, ministry, failure, stubborn determination, and the surprising ways God uses suffering to reshape a life.
This is not a polished story of easy victory. It is a testimony of redemption forged through pain. About the Author
Meet Mike
Mike Shultz is an author, speaker, husband, father, and longtime encourager to people facing fear, trauma, disability, and seasons of deep uncertainty. Born in 1961, and even in the broken places of his early life, the love of Jesus remained the one steady point of reference.
After the accident that changed everything, Mike had to relearn basic life skills, including how to dress, bathe, move through the world in a wheelchair, and write again after a head injury. In that painful recovery, he discovered that Jesus had not abandoned him; instead, God was reshaping his life with purpose, endurance, and hope.
Mike went on to serve as Executive Director of Christian Overcomers and Progressive Graphics Training Center, where the outreach grew from serving roughly 400 people to more than 1,000. He helped establish a vocational training model for people with disabilities in New Jersey, served on the New Jersey Rehabilitation Advisory Council, ministered as a chaplain at the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta, and helped lead an outreach that brought medical equipment to people with disabilities in Portugal.
Today, Mike continues to speak at churches, conferences, and small groups, sharing a message of perseverance, redemption, and the sustaining love of God. His story is not one of easy answers, but of a faithful God who meets people in the middle of pain and prepares them for the day in front of them.
Mike is married to Laurie. Together they have two daughters, Lucie and Joanna. He also brings decades of professional experience as an Enterprise Performance Management Architect. Through every season, Mike remains convinced that God has used the hardships, failures, relationships, victories, and unexpected turns of his life to prepare him for today.
